"Edward Mackenzie is an artist who has specialised in the reworking of found objects. Most of his shows have centered around the transformation of everyday manufactured objects into art, with one kind of material giving unity to each exhibition.

The material he chooses to re-work in his Oracle Exhibition consists of oars and rowlocks, though there is supplementary help from old shears, gun stocks....

Out of these materials he makes objects that are always remarkable and sometimes astonishing.

The oars are cut into small sections that reveal the hollow construction. They are cut on an angle so that the hollow in the center takes on a heart shape or, in the case of Choristers, an open mouth....show(ing) the inventive capacity to transform that is typical of Edward Mackenzie...."
