I
have long been fascinated by frames and more so by the process
and the idea of framing. People usually frame a picture or object
whereby the choice of frame is inspired by its contents. Therefore
the frame is by nature of secondary importance. In this series
of work I am reversing the process: making the frames of primary
importance, letting people respond to the frames themselves. This
allows the viewer to enjoy the process of choosing the contents
to suit the frame, i.e. being inspired by the frame itself.
Where
the contents are not included in the frame, people are invited
to put what they will (small photos or treasures) into the frame.
I encourage people to use this art to frame 3 dimensional as well
as traditional 2 dimensional art.
Besides
advertising the pieces themselves, this also shows my willingness
and desire to accept commissions to make frames using the client's
treasures (old family photos, stamps, toys, heirlooms, etc. -
all those things collecting in the attic or garage.)
